Robert Claybourne Berkley was the son of James Henry Berkley and Margaret Edna Odd Berkley. He was the third son and fourth born child of seven siblings. William Harlon, James Donald, Nina Edna, Robert Claybourne, Colleen Adilda, Timothy Ray, and Patrick J. Berkley. Robert died at the age of three of Spinal Meningitis. His brother Patrick J. Berkley was killed in action in Korea in 1950.
