(III) John B. , son of James and Rhoda (Rittenhouse) Blair , was born in Perry township , 1823 , and died August 22, 1875 . He was brought up in Perry township , and became a carpenter and barn builder, being noted for his ability in that work. Many barns in his part of the county were built by him; he did contracting in this line. He owned two sawmills. One of the first circular sawmills in the county was at Buena Vista , and he was one-fourth owner. The McDonald mill, a water mill on Virgin run, was owned and operated by him. For six years he did undertaking at his home. He owned a farm in the southern part of Perry township , which was operated for him. In politics he was a Republican, but not active. In the Flatwoods Baptist church he was a prominent member and a deacon, his wife also being a member of that congregation.

He married, Minerva , daughter of Reuben and Jane Sutton , who was born in Fayette county, Pennsylvania , near Georges creek , and died in 1902 . Her parents were of German descent, and probably came from eastern Pennsylvania to Fayette county , where they lived on a farm in Georges township . They afterward removed to Perry township , where he owned a farm near the Jackson schoolhouse. For a number of years he was a justice of the peace. He was a Democrat, and a member of the Baptist church.

Their children were: 1. Richard , a Baptist preacher, and lived in Washington county, Ohio . 2. Milton , also a Baptist preacher, and lived in Iowa . 3. Minerva , married John B. Blair . 4. Pelina , married Samuel Johnson ; she is living, the only survivor among these children, in the state of Washington ; her husband is deceased.

1. Martha Jane , died at the age of eighteen.
2. Christina , married Jonathan Shaffer ; she lives in Perry township .
3. Taylor , died 1877 , married Mary Yokum ; he lived and died at West Newton, Pennsylvania , where he was a carpenter.
4. Ansley , deceased, married Isabel Cook ; he was a physician, practicing at Barricksville, West Virginia , where he died.
5. Olen Sutton , of whom further.
6. Pelina , married John Lynn ; they live on a farm in Perry township .
7. Anna Belle , married John Clark ; they live on a farm in Perry township .
8. Satura , married Dr. L. T. Russell ; they live at Perryopolis, Fayette county, Pennsylvania .
9. Melissa , married Andrew Carson ; they live on the old Blair homestead in Perry township .
10. Grant , married Catherine Shallenberger ; he lives at Connellsville, Fayette county, Pennsylvania , and is there engaged in the insurance business.
11. John Humbert , died at the age of two.
12. Naomi , stillborn.
13. Avaline Dunn , married Augusta Freiburger , he is engaged in the livery business, and lives at Dawson, Pennsylvania . 14. Joy , married James Wells ; they live on a farm in Perry township .
