Dennis Boyd Newhart of Laceyville died Saturday May 16, 2009 in Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Jean Vusick Newhart. Born in Sayre on Aug. 2, 1933, son of the late Elisha John and Emma Benninger Newhart, Dennis was a graduate of Laceyville High School, class of 1952, and attended Wyoming Seminary for a year. Before his retirement, he was employed by Bendix Corp., South Montrose. Surviving are two sons, Dale, Tunkhannock; and Rory, West Auburn; a daughter, LuAnn Greenley, Harveys Lake; three brothers, Carl Newhart, Tunkhannock; Frank Newhart, Camptown; and Paul Newhart, Middletown, Pa.; a sister, Vida Kone, Waverly, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Troy Dennis Newhart; four brothers, Russell, Maurice, Edward and Floyd Newhart; and three sisters, Lucy VanBoven, Mildred Roote and Maxine Arasz. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 6 p.m. from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with the Rev. Pat Newhart, his niece, officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3 until the time of service.
