Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Friday, May 29, 2015 at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Father Richard Piontkowski officiating. Burial will follow in Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home Thursday from 4-8 pm with a Rosary service at 7:00. Memorials are suggested to Salvation Army of Grand Island.


Robert D. Kamper, 86, of Grand Island died Saturday, May 23, 2015 at his home.

Robert “Bob” was born December 3, 1928 in Palmer, NE to Herman and Lydia (Luebke) Kamper. He grew up in Palmer and attended school and worked on the family farm. Later he moved to Grand Island and worked for Hale Construction.

On November 21, 1959, he was united in marriage to Jane Waskowiak. After which the couple lived in Grand Island. He started working at New Holland as a welder and worked his way to an office position as an industrial engineer. He retired in 1991.

Bob was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral. He enjoyed gardening and working outdoors. Inside he did woodworking and was an accomplished cook and baker. He shared his goodies with others.

Bob is survived by son: Bill (Susan) Kamper of Papillion, NE; daughter: Susan (David) Marx of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Danielle, Allison, and Amanda Kamper of Papillion, NE, and Nathan Marx of Omaha, NE; great grandson: Trenton Kamper; sisters: Evelyn (Charles) James of Grand Island, Lois (Larry) Crumrine of St. Paul, NE, and Melva Jean Kamper of TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Jane in Feb. of 2011; brothers: Donald, Lyle, Jimmie, and Marvin Kamper.
