Centralia Journal, Friday, Dec. 23, 1927, page 5:
Mary Louise Shoemaker

Miss Mary Louise Shoemaker was born in Centralia, April 7, 1908. She was the daughter of Wayland and Florence Shoemaker. She departed this life December 19, 1927, age 19 years, eight months and twelve days.
She was educated in the Centralia schools, graduating with honor in May 1925. From September 1925 to June 1927 she was a student in the Kansas State University.

Mary was a girl of rare personal charm and ability. Her friends were many and she was loved by all who knew her. Wherever she went she carried cheer and happiness and she had a smile for all her friends.

Mary taught a class in the Junior department of the Sunday School during the summer and up until the illness of her mother, her winsome manner and cheerful smile won a place in her pupils' hearts.

During the fall Mary attended a teacher's training class, where her pastor was greatly impressed with her earnestness and painstaking interest in the study of child psychology.

Mary united with the Methodist church during the pastorate of Rev. Tannehill.
We all mourn her untimely departure. But the Lord has given and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord. "She passed through Glory's morning gate, and walked in Paradise."

She leaves to mourn her departure, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Wayland Shoemaker and seven sisters, Violet, who teaches in Altus, Oklahoma, Twila, teacher in Great Bend, Kansas, Jeannie, a student in Leavenworth, Kansas, Hazel, Ruth, Wayva Jane, and Jonne, who are at home, besides Grandma Domer and Grandma Shoemaker, aunts and uncles and a host of friends besides.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the home of her uncle, R.R. Domer in the country, conducted by Rev. F.O. Hesse, assisted by Rev. J.H. Cone. Interment in the Centralia cemetery.
