JONESBOROUGH -- Leona A. Farmer, 78, of Jonesborough, passed away Tuesday at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Mrs. Farmer was born in Greene County, to the late Sherman and Lucy Bowman Jarrett. She was also preceded in death by her husband: Emory Farmer; a grandson: Jordan Estepp; brothers: Bobby Jarrett, Evert Jarrett, Leon Jarrett, Lawrence Jarrett and an infant, Johnny Jarrett.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Farmer was a homemaker and babysitter. She had a gift for loving and nurturing children.
In addition to raising her four daughters, she was a caregiver and known as "grandma" to many children over the years.
Survivors include her daughters: Gail Bennett (Kent), and Barbara Estepp (Jerry), all of Limestone, Natalie Wallace (Brian) of Church Hill, and Kristi Rainwater of Johnson City; sisters: Vera Graybeal (Gene), Janice Shipley (Ralph), and Barbara Thompson (Ted); a brother: Paul Jarrett (Edna Ruth); grandchildren: Nikki Bennett, Wesley Bennett, Tyler Estepp (Jessica), and Kalyn Rainwater; great-grandchildren: BreAnna Johnson and Taraji Lathen; sisters-in-law: Betty Jarrett, Alma Ruth Jarrett and Louise Jarrett; and several nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. today at the Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with the funeral service to be conducted at 7 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Jeremy Dykes will officiate.
Interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Limestone Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be J.D. Barnett Jr., Brian Barnett, Mike Jarrett, Randy Jarrett, David Shipley and Marty Fagan.
