Leonard G. “Hon” Spaide, 78, of Berwick passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Berwick Hospital Center, where he had been a patient since Sunday.
Born in Berwick on March 20, 1937, he was the son of the late Emma (Smith) and Abram Spaide Sr. He attended Nescopeck High School and was a plasterer by trade. He was employed at various local manufacturing plants, and most recently, worked at Boyer’s IGA, Berwick.
He attended St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church, Berwick. He raised pigeons, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid Eagles and Flyers fan.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of nearly 48 years, Nancy M. (Karns) Spaide; sons: Leonard Spaide Jr., Louisiana; Danny Spaide, Louisiana; Audie Spaide, Berwick; Scott Spaide and companion, Michelle Smith, Bloomsburg; Brian Spaide and wife Chrissy, Shickshinny; daughter: Tammy Winterhalt and husband Mark, Allentown; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters: Olive Ruckle, Berwick; Noreen Graver, Lancaster, and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Wilbur, Howard, Abram Jr., Fred, infant brother Clarence, and sister, Beldene Pendelton.
It was Leonard’s request to be cremated. A memorial prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Heller Funeral Home LLC, 633 E. Third St., Nescopeck, with the Reverend Francis Tamburro officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Berwick.
