Abram "Abe" Spaide, 80, of 108 Main street, Mifflinville, died Thursday evening at 6:20 at Berwick Hospital where he had been a patient since June 19. He had been in ill health for the past year.
Born in Hetlerville, he was a son of the late Horace and Alice Joslin Spaide. He resided in the area all of his life.
A coal miner for 18 years, he had also been employed at ACF Industries Inc., Berwick for 32 years, retiring in 1962.
He was a member of the Berwick Moose and Eagles Lodges, the Mifflinville Fire Co., the Nescopeck Fire Co., and the National Rifle Association.
Surviving are his wife, Alethia, to whom he was married for 59 years; three daughters, Mrs. William (Deldine) Pendleton, of Odessa, Texas; Mrs. Fred (Olive) Ruckle, of Berwick; Mrs. Donald (Noreen) Graver, of Lancaster; three sons, Abram Jr. and Howard, both of Nescopeck and Leonard, of Berwick; 19 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence Spaide of Nescopeck R.D.1 and Floyd Spaide of Nescopeck; and three sisters, Mrs. Edith Hoffner, of Rock Glen; Mrs. Erma Creasy of Nescopeck and Mrs. Clara Keene of Berwick.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Heller Funeral Home, Nescopeck. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Market Street, Berwick.
