GERRY MYERS PASSES AWAY VERY SUDDENLY AT HIS HOME ON EAST SIDE TODAY
The sudden death of Gerry Myers at his home on the east side this Thursday morning at 7:30, will be a surprise to those who saw him in town Wednesday. He was not well, having been troubled with his heart for some years. Tuesday he overexerted himself driving cattle out of the alfalfa field. He was soon after taken with a severe pain in the chest, accompanied by straining and vomiting. Feeling better he came to town Wednesday but was again ill that night and Dr. S. V. West was called. At 3 this morning his pain increased rapidly, as his chest filled up so that he could not lie down. His chest filled rapidly until he dropped over on the lounge, unconscious. He was not relieved and passed away this Thursday morning.
Mr. Myers was a son of Mrs. Ann Myers and was born in Wisconsin about 56 years ago and came with his parents to California when he was 5 years old. He was a farmer and was highly respected, being a good and honest neighbor, friend and citizen. In his domestic life he was all that a father and husband could be, ever exerting his best abilities for home and family. At his fireside he will be sadly missed for he leaves a wife and eight children to mourn his loss, besides his aged mother and three sisters, Mrs. Kate Roach, Mrs. Stephen Baker, and Mrs. Dryer.
November 30, 1876 Gerry Myers and Miss Lucinda Allen of Colusa were married, Rev. A. O'Donnell officiating. The children are Frank, Phillip, Robert, Arthur, Gordon, Alice, Louis, and Grace.
"'Twas once the father, husband all -
'Tis he who made home happy, bright,
But now, far, far the soul has flown
To yonder sky for heavenly light."
