Obituary for Lucy Lee Merritt
Lucy, 90, died on October 25, 2016 in Kennewick, Washington.

She was born in Mitchells, VA on February 17, 1926. She was the 8th of 11 children born to Harriet (Smoot) and Robert F. Lee.

She grew up in the country and experienced the joys and hard work of a rural life --farming, canning, picking fruit and swinging on old tire swings.

After High School, she moved to Washington DC to work. While living in the Nation's capital she met, then married a handsome, young Metropolitan Policeman- Robert D Merritt. They were married for 54 years.

After living in Maryland and Virginia, in 1961 the family moved to Florida. While in Florida, they made the trip every summer to Virginia to visit extended family and attend the Lee Family Reunion. This was always a highlight for Lucy and continued until she was unable to travel.

In 1997 Bob and Lucy left Florida and joined their married daughters and their families in Kennewick. Lucy was a member of Kennewick United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to read, talk about the “old days,” was active in social activities, and especially enjoyed showing visitors the many miniature oil lamps and Avon bottles she and Bob collected over their years together. After Bob died, she lived in the Hawthorne Court Retirement community and spent the last months of her life at Grandridge Meadows Adult Family Home.

She is survived by her children and spouses: Brenda (Tim) Munley, Shirley (Jeff) Griffin, 3 grandsons and spouses; William (Eden) Munley, Triston (Kathryn) Hollingsworth, Peter (Valerie) Griffin; 3 great grandchildren; Aiden Munley, Kaylyn and Luna Griffin, a brother, 3 sisters-in-law, 28 nieces and nephews, and her dear friend, Flora Bennett.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert D. Merritt; grandson Benjamin Griffin, 7 brothers, 4 sisters-in-law, and a niece.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home. A funeral service, celebrating her life, will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2016, at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union St, Kennewick, with Pastor Doug Mowry officiating
