Born in Toronto to John Hugh Bertram and Martha Largetta Killer, then living on Orde Street. Grandson of George Hope Bertram. He was named after both grandfathers (George Hope Bertram and Nicholas Killer). Older brother of Fred and Jack. Graduated from UTS in 1914. Joined the army October 29 1917 and served in WWI. Married June 12 1921 to Gladys Eleanor Isobel Somerville, daughter of Nelson Grey Somerville and Jennie Cecelia Blair. Like his father before him, worked in the customs business, and became managing director of General Customs Services Ltd. Father of two sons, Ron and Bob. Buried in family plot in Mount Pleasant, Toronto.
