WM. GANTNER DIES; RETIRED BAKER

William A. Gantner, 64, of 800 North Douglas Avenue died at 11:20 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospital where he had been a patient for a week. Mr. Gantner was a baker at Feickert's Bakery for 35 years before his retirement and previously was employed at the former Fellner Bakery. He had been in failing health for two months.

A son of the late George and Anna Gantner, nee Lill, he was born in Belleville on July 28, 1903. He married Catherine Brauer in Belleville on October 15, 1941. She died March 17, 1956.

Surviving are a daughter, Miss Margaret Mary Gantner, at home; a son, William Gantner, Jr., 1907 North 89th Street, East St. Louis, and four sisters, Miss Emma Gantner and Mrs. Lena Baquet, both of 612 Bristow Street; Anna, wife of A.E. McCann, East St. Louis and Josephine Fisher; St. Louis. He was preceded in death by a sister.

Mr. Gantner was a member of Belleville Lodge 1221, Loyal Order of Moose, and the South Side Improvement Association.

The funeral will be held at 9:45 a.m. Friday from the Pate Gaerdner Funeral Home to St. Luke Church for a requiem Mass at 10 o'clock. The Rev. Lester Himstedt will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Shiloh. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Wednesday. The rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Thursday.

NOTE: William Adolf Gantner was raised the youngest child of George and Anna Lill Gantner, but he was actually their grandson. His mother, ELIZABETH GANTNER EPPLE, was their eldest daughter. William's biological father was WILLIAM ADOLF VOLLRATH -
