Mary Frances Todd was the second child born to Elias Todd and Elizabeth Nettles, she was on born January 25, 1831 in Elizabeth City County, Virginia. Mary and Christopher Columbus "Kit" Nettles, son of William J. and Sarah Nettles, were married on February 1, 1855 in Elizabeth City County Virginia. They had thirteen children Charles Wesley, Missouri who died as and infant, Mary Emma, Solomon who died as and infant, Martha Jane" Mattie", India, Danial Webster "Webb", Katurah "Tootsie", Henry Clay, John who died at the age five, Lydia Auburn, Martha "Sallie" and Minnie F Nettles. Christopher and Mary made their home on the lower Peninsula all of their lives. Census records recorded on June 15, 1900 and April 15, 1910 stated that Mary was the mother of thirteen children and nine were living. Mary died March 31, 1916 at the home of her daughter Lydia Auburn Nettles Vanderslice at 1247 20th Street in Newport News, Virginia. Mary was buried April 2, 1916 in the Oakland Cemetery in unmarked grave.
