James D. Schamens Sr., 58, of 1623 W. Seventh St. Died Thursday, Sept. 1, 1994, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Services Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Richard Kothe officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery. Visitation Saturday and Sunday at Brand-Wilson Mortuary.
Mr. Schamens was born July 28, 1936, to Orlin and Abbie (Janssen) Schamens at Bryant S.D. He attended elementary school in South Dakota. He attended high school and college while in the military. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1954-1962. He worked for the U.S. Post Service in Mitchell, S.D. He moved to Hastings in 1966, where he worked for Burlington Northern Railroad. He married Virginia Lang on June 22, 1957.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and VFW.
Survivors are his wife; one daughter, Pamela McCartney of Hastings; two sons, James Jr. and Troy, both of Hastings; five sisters, Ada Hanson and Jean Parrett, both of Portland, Ore., Ethel Sondergaard of Estelline, S.D., and Alice Moeller of Bryant, S.D. and Evelyn Moeller of Canby, Ore., three brothers, Alert of Hazel, S.D., Orvil of Canby, Ore., and Charles of Pierre. S.D.; and four grandchildren.
