Homer Travis Simmons was born in October of 1908 as the 6th child to Jess and Mary Jane Simmons. He lived at home and helped with farming chores until his death on December 19, 1930. He was 22 years old when he succumbed to Typhoid fever. He was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Simmons, who had died in infancy. He was survived by his parents, 4 sisters, and 7 brothers.

He was buried in a cemetery in Valley Mills, Bosque County, Texas. Today, his gravesite remains among approximately 70 unidentifiable graves in Bosque County cemeteries.
