Amanda Ophelia Simmons Brock, 94, died Oct. 4 at Hamilton General Hospital. Funeral services were held Oct. 7 in the Clifton Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Boggy Cemetery.

She was born June 27, 1914 in Mosheim, the daughter of Jesse and Mary Ann Dockins Simmons and was one of 13 siblings. She grew up in the Mosheim area and attended schools there. She also helped on the family farm picking cotton and doing other farming chores. She also cleaned a church and homes during her youth.

She met Joe Franklin Brock in high school and they married in Mosheim on June 30, 1933. They moved to California where Joe worked as a surveyor. One son, Claude Morris, was born while they lived there.

The couple moved back to Texas while their son was still an infant. The couple moved to White Settlement during WWII, where her husband worked for General Dynamics. The couple made their home and raised their family there.

They resettled in Bosque County to the Cranfills Gap area in the mid seventies after her husband's retirement from General Dynamics.

Mrs. Brock worked in a coffee shop in Clifton for several years. She was an avid reader and read the entire Bible yearly.

She enjoyed plants and gardening. She loved to travel when the opportunity afforded itself. Most of all, she enjoyed being a grandmother and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She made her home in Clifton for several years and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Clifton. She was also active in the Retired Senior Volunteers and helped with Meals on Wheels and also worked at the food bank as a volunteer.

For the past several years she made her home in Purmela on her son's farm.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her mother and father; daughter-in-law and all of her siblings except one.

Survivors include her son, Claude M. Brock; a brother, Henry Simmons; a granddaughter, Karen Rister and husband Michael; grandson, Joey Brock; great-grandson, Phillip Martin and wife Shawna; great-grandson Keith Martin and wife Jolene; great-great-grandsons, Clayton Aaron Gill and Ethan Brock Martin; great-great-granddaughters, Charlie Jordan Martin and Emma Grace Martin and numerous other relatives.
