Born in 1906, Jessie was the 5th child of Jess and Mary Jane Simmons. She lived at home and helped with household chores, including the care of several younger siblings. On January 5, 1931, only 3 weeks shy of her 25th birthday, she succumbed to Typhoid fever. Her death came less than a month after her brother Travis had also died from Typhoid fever. In addition to Travis, she was preceded in death by Johnny Simmons, a brother who had died in infancy about 1900. She was survived by her parents, 3 sisters, and 7 brothers.

She was buried in a cemetery in Valley Mills, Bosque County, Texas. Today, her grave site remains among approximately 70 unidentifiable graves in Bosque County cemeteries.
