Harry Richard Tharp of Sycamore passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at the age of 85 years young. He was born January 29, 1938 a son of the late William Ansel Tharp and Irene Toland Tharp. Harry enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, socializing with many friends and relatives and gambling....even though he never won. Many knew him as quite the character. Harry was last employed by Center Township and retired at 75. He also worked for Central Cambria Drilling as a hoist operator, and Dick Coal Corporation as a Fire Boss. He was a veteran, having served in the US Army. He was a member of the VFW Post #4793, the American Legion Post #330 the DAV #123 and the Fraternal Order of The Eagles, all of Waynesburg, PA. He, along with many buddies helped conduct graveside military rites.

He is survived by two daughters, Rhonda (Barry) Watson and Sherri Virgili, both of Waynesburg; one stepdaughter, Lela Whipkey of Ohio; and one stepson, Calvin Whipkey of Fla. He had 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a niece and nephew that were very dear to him always, Gary and Annette Johnston of Sycamore. Harry was the last of his immediate family. Deceased are his first wife: Sarah Elizabeth Black and his second wife: Carol Ann Craig; his Son, Richard William Tharp; two brothers, Herbert Tharp and James Tharp; five sisters, Theda Lavaughn Pettit, Margaret Johnston, Marjorie Oliphant, Irma Jean Tharp, Madelyn Crooker; and two step-sisters, Kathryn Kalist and Blanche Courtright.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 10, in the Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, Inc. 197 N. Maiden St. Waynesburg, PA 15370 Shane M. Ayers, Director where services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 11, with Pastor Scott Blair officiating. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Rogersville, PA Graveside Military Rites to be accorded by the Greene County Veterans and active members of the US Army. The family suggest Memorial contributions be made to the Greene County Honor Guard, 445 E. Lincoln St., Waynesburg, PA 15370
