Mrs. Irene Tharp, 66, of Sycamore R. D. 1, died at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 1974 in Greene County Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Born December 7, 1907 in Marshall County, W. Va., she was the daughter of Daniel and Goldie Harris Toland, and was the widow of William A. Tharp, who died in October 1941.

Mrs. Tharp lived most of her life in the Center Township area, and was a member of the Bates Fork Baptist Church, Sycamore.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Ellwood (LaVaughn) Pettit of Daisytown; Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Johnston of Sycamore; Mrs. Margaret Oliphant of Ambridge; Erma Jean Tharp of Waynesburg R. D. 4; and Mrs. John (Madolyn) Crooker of Peabody, Mass.; three sons, Herbert Tharp and Harry Tharp, both of Waynesburg R. D. 4; and James Tharp of Jefferson R. D. 1; 40 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Miller of Ninevah; and Mrs. Virginia Thompson of Sycamore; four brothers, Woodrow Toland and Ralph Toland, both of Sycamore; and Kenneth Toland of Prosperity and Samuel Toland, of Waynesburg; two step-daughters, Mrs. Blanche Courtwright of Waynesburg R. D. 4; and Mrs. Kathryn Kalist of Nemacolin.

An Infant son and a brother Cecil Toland, are both deceased.
