Fred W. (Fritz) Grapentine, age 86, of 1310 S. 11th St., Manitowoc, died Thursday morning, June 29, 2000, at Rivers Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2000, at First German Ev. Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Bruce Bitter, with burial to follow in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, town of Kossuth.
He was born December 19, 1913, in Manitowoc, son of the late Fred P. and Alvina Willert Grapentine Sr. Fred was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, class 1933. On July 6, 1935, he married Lorien Kluczinski. She preceded him in death in 1983. On June 25, 1988, he married the former Shirley LaViolette Chase, at First German Ev. Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Fred was employed as an accountant at the Mirro Company for 34 years retiring in 1979. He was a secretary for the Manitowoc Rifle and Pistol Club for 40 years, and was a director at the Manitowoc, and was a director at the Manitowoc Community Credit Union for 24 years.
Survivors include his wife Shirley, Manitowoc; his children and their spouses, Duane “Yogi” (Bonnie) Chase, Ray (Sara) Chase, Karen (Chris) Schock, Eileen (Barry) Miller, all of Two Rivers; 14 grandchildren; five great grandchildren, one brother and sister-in-law, Walter (Sadie) Grapentine, Manitowoc; one sister, Ida Kauman, Manitowoc; and special friends, Viola Hill, Manitowoc, Jerry and Molly LaFond, Two Rivers. Also surviving are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mildred Monfils, Brussels, Vivian (Wayne) Johnson, Cleveland, Virginia (Charles) Meunier, Kellnersville, Donna Nicholson, Sturgeon Bay, Doris (Daryle) Wolske, Algoma, Fay (Willard) Koolstad Forestville, Wis., Keith LaViolette and Shirley, Casco, Roy (Mary) LaViolette, Sturgeon Bay, Louie (Susie) LaViolette, and Philip Nelson, Sturgeon Bay. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by two sons, James and Larry Grapentine; two brothers, Charles and William Grapentine; two sisters, Adela Applekamp, Harriett Schwerzler; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Nelson; and brothers-in-law, Lawrence Monfils, Tom Nicholson, and Ken and Jane LaViolette.
The family will greet relatives and friends at First German Ev. Lutheran Church, Manitowoc from 9 a.m. Saturday, until the time of service at 10:30 a.m.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
