She was the sister of Aaron V. Dean, Simon Dean , Susan E. Dean, Russell Dean , Hardy Dean, Elizabeth Jane Dean, Joseph J. Dean, Nancy Dean, William H. Dean and Thomas Jefferson Dean.
(Aaron and Joseph were both Confederate soldiers who perished in battle in 1864. William and Thomas J. also joined the Condederate cause and were both captured on November 30, 1864. They were released a few days later, upon promising not to participate in any additional fighting against Union troops.)
She married James Greer McGowen I on February 20, 1867.
She was the mother of three children, James Greer McGowen II , Joseph Hardy McGowen and Cynthia Ellen McGowen, who died in infancy and is buried in Arkansas.
