DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. - Paul W. Power, 85, of Deer Creek Country Club Blvd., formerly of Worcester, Mass., a longtime championship tennis player and teacher, died Friday in Manor Care Nursing Home, Boca Raton, after an illness.
He was born in Worcester, son of Patrick and Elizabeth (McCann) Power, and lived there before moving to Deerfield Beach in 1972. He graduated from North High School, Worcester, and attended Holy Cross College in Worcester and Providence (R.I.) College.

He worked in the family roofing business for many years before he retired.

Mr. Power was a professional tennis player and teacher for many years, mainly at the Worcester Tennis Club and the Greendale Branch of the Worcester YMCA, but also at Worcester Country Club. He most recently played and taught at Deer Creek Racquet Club. He retired in 1987. Mr. Power started playing tennis at age 8. He won many city, county and New England titles. Among his victories: In 1957, he won the double finals of the Connecticut Senior Tennis Championship, held in Norwich. In 1969, he ranked No. 1 in three divisions of the New England Lawn Tennis Association rankings. In 1973, he ranked No. 4 in New England Senior 60 Singles and No. 1 in New England Senior 60 Doubles.

A memorial Mass will be held Tuesday in Deerfield Beach. After cremation, his ashes will be scattered at sea. All County Funeral Home, 1107 Lake Ave., Lake Worth, is directing arrangements.
