Born January 20, 1914, in Port Norfolk, Norfolk County, she was co-owner of Chester A. Bamforth Land Surveyor Co.; retired secretary of Virginia Beach public schools bus garage; member of Community United Methodist Church and Ruth Circle; member of Kempsville Women's Club since 1953; past president and chairwoman of decorations; former member of Kempsville Garden Club and honoree of the Federation of Garden Clubs of Norfolk; former volunteer at Leigh Memorial Hospital; and former member of Ocean View Chapter of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Chester A. Bamforth; sons C. Allan Bamforth Jr. and his wife, Linda, Ralph R. Bamforth and his wife, Mary Beth; daughter Grace Marie Garriott and her husband, Dick; grandchildren Anna Lee Bamforth, Kathryn G. Lawrence, Richard E. Garriott Jr., Beth Anne Garriott Campbell and Holly M. Garriott; and great-granddaughters Madison and Meredith Garriott.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community United Methodist Church or Kempsville Volunteer Fire Department.
