Denis William Bauer, 90, of Sycamore, Ill., died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at home.
Born Sept. 14, 1916, in Montrose, Mo., he was the son of Christopher and Rose (Freihammer) Bauer. He married Mary Ridulph on Oct. 25, 1941, at St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb.
He was a 1934 graduate of Sycamore High School and was employed as a tool-and-die maker at Anaconda Wire & Cable Co. for 43 years.
He was a member of The Church of St. Mary in Sycamore. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Sycamore.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Bauer of Sycamore; two daughters, Denise Roach of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Renee (Roger) Little of Annapolis, Md.; four sons, Lee (Nancy) Bauer of Reston, Va., Richard (Joyce) Bauer of Maple Park, David Bauer of Long Beach, Calif., and Alan (Mary) Bauer of Sycamore; two sisters, Margery Minor of Wheaton and Georgianne Peterson of Sycamore; a brother, Cyril Bauer of Golden, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Roselieb; three brothers, Lee, Robert and Raymond Bauer; and a granddaughter, Jori Bauer.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at The Church of St. Mary, 244 Waterman St. in Sycamore, with the Rev. Frank John Timar, M.S.C., celebrating. Interment will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Sycamore. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, July 6, at Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home, with a wake service at 7:30 p.m.
