Joseph Brown is the son of Griffith Brown and Penelope Nations. Griffith and Penelope possibly arrived in South Carolina from England before 1790. At age 20 Joseph served in the War of 1812. In 1815 he married Mary (Polly)Piper in St. Charles, MO.
