Mrs. Benton Dies Friday; Services Are Held Sunday
Mrs. Bertha E. Benton died at her home here Friday, following a long illness.
She was born in Mt. Airy, North Carolina on February 16, 1871 the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Sparger) Evans and was married to Thomas H Benton November 10, 1889. Mr. and Mrs. Benton were married for more than 59 years until his death in April 1949.
Mrs. Benton became a member of the Methodist church early in her life. She moved to Edhube, Texas in 1885 and to Madill in January 1912.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church here Sunday afternoon. The Rev. Walter Bowers was assisted by the Rev. A. E. Maness and the Rev. L.E. Green. Burial was in Woodberry-Forest cemetery with Watts Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Benton is survived by five children, Mrs. Walter Jagers and Miss Mary Jo Benton, Madill; Mrs. Dink Hull, Childress, Texas; Ralph Benton, Wichita Falls, Texas; and Glen Benton, Borger, Texas.
Pallbearers for the funeral, all nephews of Mrs. Benton were: Clark Benton, Julian Evans, Ross Meadows, Ray Evans, R.E Rouke and Jess Evans.
Among the out-of-town relatives and friends here for the services were: Mrs. and Mrs. F.M. Crook, Tulsa; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Benton, Wichita Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Dink Hull, Childress, Texas; Mrs. M. W. Evans, Artesia, New Mexico.
