John Blewitt died at noon today at Pittston hospital. His death resulted from injuries he received in Coxton yard last Thursday afternoon. The passing away of Mr. Blewitt removes one of the city's most respected citizens and widespread regret followed the announcement of his demise.
Mr. Blewitt was a man in the neighborhood and 45 years old. For many years he had been a resident of Broad street and his entire life was spent in this vicinity. He was employed as a railroader and had been long in the service of the Lehigh Valley. It was while pursuing his occupation of car inspector that the accident overtook him that resulted fatally.
The deceased was a member of St. John's congregation and was affiliated with the Knights of Columbus, having been active in the work of Pittston Council.
His survivors are his widow and the following children, the youngest of whom is five years old: William, Jennie, Grace, May, Regina, Justin, Clare and George. His mother, Mrs. Thomas Blewitt, of Pine street, and the following brothers and sisters also survive: Patrick of Port Griffith, Mrs. M. J. Tighe, Mrs. Daniel Scott, Elizabeth and Thomas, the last named a resident of New York.
The funeral is to be hold Tuesday morning, with a high mass of requiem in St. John's' church at 9:30 and interment in St. John's cemetery.
