Aaron was the son and eldest child of James and Ruth (Whitehead) Bennett. His younger siblings were Samuel, Jesse and Julia Bennett.
He was the grandson of John and Nancy (McCarty) Bennett and James and Sarah (Wood) Whitehead.
We do not know where Aaron's father, James, is buried. To the best of our knowledge he died Bet. 1846–1847 in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. His daughter, Julia was born March 15, 1843. Her obituary states that he died when she was three years of age.
In 1860 Aaron was living with his mother's sister and husband (William and Hester Whitehead McCarty) and family in Fairfield Township, Tippecanoe County, Indiana.
According to American Civil War Soldiers in Ancestry he enlisted in the Union Army as a Private on 22 August 1862 in Company L, 5th Cavalry Regiment Indiana. He was accidently killed on 31 August 1865. (Note: His tombstone states he died on July 31st.)
