MEMORIAL

Gula Elma Bennett was born at LaFayette, Ind., March 15th, 1843, and departed this life at her home near Turon, Kans., on May 9th 1921, aged seventy-eight years, one month and twenty-four days.

Losing her father at the age of three, she moved with her mother and brother to Benton county, Ind. She was united in marriage with George C. Buhl on Aug. 10th, 1873, at Remington, Ind. To them were born four children: one son, Amos Seldon, dying in infancy, and three daughters. Mrs. Ruth Eva Murray and Mrs. Josie Grimble, both of Turon, Kans, and Mrs. Mary Lucretia Gibson of Calgary, Canada, all being at their mother's bedside when she passed away.

They moved to Pratt county, Kans., in February, 1907, living near Cullison for ten years, then to near Turon, Reno county, Kans., where they have lived during the past four years.

Besides her aged companion and three daughters she leaves to mourn their loss, ten grandchildren, one brother, S. M. Bennett, of Meade, Kans., and a host of other relatives and friends.

Sister Buhl confessed Christ as her Saviour when only a little girl of ten years, uniting with the Methodist Episcopal church at LaFayette, Ind. Wherever she moved she brought her letter and united with the Methodist church nearest her home.

She was always a lover of God's word, reading the Bible through before she was ten years old. During
the last years of her life her afflictions kept her from attending the services of God's house, which she had always enjoyed so much, but her Bible was her constant companion, guide and comfort. No matter when you came you generally would find her reading her Bible. The precious promises of God's holy word she read and re-read every day, thus anchoring her soul through the storms of life to the "rock that is higher than I," and making her presence a tower of strength to her husband in their declining years.

For these reasons we can truly say that Sister Buhl was a faithful, loving, Christian wife and mother, a good neighbor and a true friend. Mother has gone. Her journey of life is run. She has finished her course, she has kept the faith. The sands in the glass have sifted, one by one, and the years allotted to her have been counted out. The record is complete and the book is closed. She has gone to be with Jesus but her gentle spirit still lives and hovers about her loved ones to guide and guard until they too shall hear the summons, "Come up higher.:***

Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. L. W. Kemp of Pratt, assisted by Rev. L. R. Parrish of Preston, and burial was in the Turon Cemetery.
