Mary L. Erwin was born in 1829 in Nashville, Tennessee, the daughter of Francis and John Patton Erwin. She married Charles E. Hillman on December 8, 1852 in Davidson County Tennessee and to this union were born five sons (Charles, Daniel, George, Lewis, and John) and one daughter (Frances). She passed away on May 14, 1898 in Nashville, Tennessee and was buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
