Mrs. Alva Curtis Dies After Short Illness
Funeral held at the home in Illinois Bend Community

Mrs. Alva Curtis, 68, a lifelong resident of the Illinois Bend community died Monday morning at her home near the Curtis School house. She had been in failing health for some time, but only seriously ill for one week.
Nancy Ellen Ayers was born June 12, 1866 on the farm that is now owned by W.N. Robinson.
She was married to Alva Curtis , and they lived east of LaPlata for a few years then moved to the farm where she lived at the time of her death. Her husband and three children, Mrs. Winifred Magers, Ray and Dave are left to mourn her passing. She also leaves one brother, Henry Ayers of Kirksville, one sister, Mrs. Mary Jane Vurge of Newton, Iowa, and nine grandchildren. Five brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the home, conducted by Mr. I. B. Turner. Burial was at **Wait Cemetery. (**see note)
**note: The obituary states she is buried in the Waite cemetery, but, the death certificate states she is buried in the Shumaker cemetery, which is almost certainly where she was buried, next to her husband, also, among many of her family members.
