---Jennie M. Magers, a La Plata native who contributed items to the Home Press for nearly 70 years, died Thursday in a Kirksville hospital. She was 84.
---She began writing and corresponding with this newspaper when she was 14 years old. Mrs. Magers first contributed items about the Yarrow area where she attended Curtis School. She married Winfred Magers in 1915 and moved to Chariton Grove, where she milked cows on the farm.
---She had two daughters, Bessie Belle Gunnels and Goldie Bragg, one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
---Mrs. Magers had an extensive collection of dolls that filled three rooms in her house in the hills north of Gifford. She also collected plates and every issue of the Home Press containing her news items. Her contributions will be missed.

---Funeral services for Jennie Mabel Magers, 84, of Rt. 1, Kirksville, will be held Sunday afternoon (April 26, 1981) at 2 o'clock in the chapel of the Davis Funeral Home. The Rev. Carl Phipps will conduct the services. Music will be provided by Harold and Betty Moyer and Mildred Cooper, singing "Beyond the Sunset" and "Precious Memories." Burial will be in Indian Hill Cemetery north of Gifford.
---Mrs. Magers died at 5 o'clock Thursday morning (April 23, 1981) in a Kirksville hospital, where she had been a patient since April 16.
---Surviving are one daughter; two brothers; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren, John Buck and Jennifer Buck and other relatives including, Manford Gunnels.
---Bearers will be: Wendell Curtis, Leon Curtis, Jack Curtis, Harlen Curtis, Larry Findling and Olin Don Magers.
---Honorary bearers will be: Oral Magers, Junior Curtis, Larry Curtis, Dean Curtis, Steve Curtis and Leo Findling.
