RAY WALTER CURTIS
---Ray Walter Curtis, 91, of La Plata died Sunday (January 14, 1990) in Kirksville Manor Care Center.
---The son of Alva and Nancy E. Ayers Curtis, he was born December 19, 1898, in La Plata. On November 1, 1919, in La Plata, he married Madge H. Tuttle who preceded him in death on September 10, 1972. Also preceding him in death were one brother and one sister.
---Surviving are five sons, Harlen Curtis and Wendell Curtis, both of Kirksville; Leon Curtis, of Elmer; Ray Junior Curtis of La Plata; and Jackie Curtis of Ewing; three daughters, Wilma Curtis Chapman of Ewing; Aline Curtis Young of Atlanta and Mae Curtis Mathes of La Plata; 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren.
---Mr. Curtis spent most of his life in Adair county. He attended the Curtis rural school in Adair county. For many years, he was engaged in farming in southern Adair county.
---Funeral services will be held at 1:30 today (Wednesday afternoon, January 17, 1990) in the Travis Funeral Chapel, La Plata. The Rev. Tim Smith, pastor of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, will conduct the services. Music will be provided by Janis Mitten, singing, "Where He Leads Me" and "Precious Memories." Burial will be in the La Plata cemetery.
---Bearers will be: J.C. Curtis, Jason Mathes, Mike Young, Gail Curtis, Glenn Chipman and Joe Curtis.
---Honorary bearers will be: Dale Curtis, Frank Curtis, Clifford Curtis, Dennis Curtis, Jeffery Curtis, Richard Young, Melvin Young and Travis Mathes.

NOTE: Spelling of names in the obituary are as they appeared in the newspaper. Apparently Wilma Curtis Chapman should be Wilma Curtis Chipman.

Infair Dinner
Mr. and Mrs. Alva Curtis gave their son, Ray Curtis and bride an infair dinner Nov. 2, 1919. The table was loaded with delicious food.
Those present were: Will Curtis and wife, J.B. Slaughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Orval Woods and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Curtis, E.P. Searcy, wife and daughters, Reva Maurita, Mamie Tuttle, Winfred Magers, wife and daughter, Goldie, Mrs. Dell Curtis and daughter, Faye, Aunt Margaret Magers, Harve Ayers, Odel and Carl Tuttle, Silas Williams, Lewis Gluck, Ernest Woods, Davie Curtis, and Everet Atteberry.
The day was spent in music and taking pictures. They all enjoyed the day and departed for their homes late in the evening wishing the couple many happy and prosperous years.
