Hugh Bowman born circa 1831 and married Catharine Hawk January 1, 1856 ( per her 164 page pension record). Enlisted in Company E, Iowa 28th Infantry Regiment on 03 Sep 1862. He died in the battle of Vicksburg and mustered out on 16 May 1863 at Champion's Hill, MS. Catharine Hawk gave birth to 3 sons from this marriage; Milton Henry Bowman ( 1856 - 1948), Frances M Bowman ( 1859 - 1862), & Oscar Rueben Bowman (1862 - 1922).
