Thoroughbred. 1952. By Princequillo out of Imperatrice. Broodmare of the Year in 1973. She raced only once, August 2, 1954, at Saratoga, unplaced. Produced 4 stakes winners: SECRETARIAT (1973 Triple Crown Winner), SIR GAYLORD, FIRST FAMILY, SYRIAN SEA; and 5 stakes-placed: Somethingfabulous, Grand Coulee, Mostar, Capital Asset and Cherryville. Somethingroyal was 18 years-old when Secretariat was born. Secretariat's owner, Penny Chenery, said Somethingroyal gave her offspring a strong sense of identity. She was top of the pecking order -- and her offspring knew they were special. Oldest mare to foal a Triple Crown winner, at age 18. Died in 1983, at 31 years of age.
