Carl Edgar Shook, 78, of Hiddenite, passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at Frye Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Catawba County, son of William Edgar Shook and Grace Grisom.
Mr. Shook was a retired Staff Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force, where he served his country proudly for 21 years, during which time he served in the Korean Conflict. After returning home he worked at Ridgeview Mills in Newton as an Electronics Technician for 16 years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Shook was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Anna Marie Scheck Shook; a daughter, Susie Taylor; a son, Randy Shook; and two sisters, Margaret Mathis and Rosalie Stevenson.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathie Hartness and husband, Bill, of Statesville, Laura Campbell, and Rebecca Goodwin and husband, Patrick, all of Hiddenite; six sons, Carl Edgar Shook Jr. and wife, Tanya, of Taylorsville, Danny Shook and wife, Phyllis, Sidney Shook, Keith Shook, Shawn Shook and wife, Amanda, all of Hiddenite, and Keiser Shook and wife, Janet of Stony Point; a sister, Rena Beamer of Boone; and a brother, David Shook and wife, Anne, of Newport News, Va. Mr. Shook was the proud grandfather of 39 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel by Father Curt Fohn and Tim Houser. Burial will follow in the Shook Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m., prior to the service. The family will also receive friends following the interment at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements.
