"WYNANTSKILL -- Bessie G. Abbott Heffner, age 85, wife of the late Frederick W. Heffner, died January 14, 2002 at Samaritan Hospital. Born in Poestenkill, daughter of the late Homer and Alida Pitcher Abbott, she attended the One Room School House on Weatherwax Road in Poestenkill. She had resided in Wynantskill over 60 years and was employed as a cafeteria worker at the Wynantskill School for 16 years, retiring 23 years ago. She was well-known for many years for her fruit cakes and breads. Mrs. Heffner was a longtime member of the First Reformed Church in Wynantskill. Survivors include four sons, David of GA, William of IL, Thomas of Wynantskill and Dennis of South Glens Falls; and a sister, Thelma M. Naylor of Wynantskill. She was predeceased by five brothers, Harvey, George, Waldo, Robert and Raymond Abbott and three sisters, Dorothy Johnston, Frances Ryan and Winona Abbott. Several grand and great-grandchildren also survive. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service Friday at 10 a.m. from the First Reformed Church, Wynantskill with Rev. Chad Schuitema, pastor, officiating. Burial in Memory's Garden, Colonie. Calling hours Thursday, 4 to 8 p.m. from the Thomas S. Connolly Funeral Home, 294 Whiteview Road, Wynantskill.
