PRINCETON — Mrs. Maudie Claris McKinney of Bluefield Avenue, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at the home of her daughter, Oreda on Princeton Avenue.

Born September 5, 1909 at Springton, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Birdie Basham Shrewsbury. She was a Christian, wife, farmer, horse woman, doctor, judge, referee, friend, wage earner, teacher, homemaker and most of all a wonderful mother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Virgil McKinney; sons, Elwood of Riverside, Calif., Lemuel of Chicago, Ill., Russell and James of Princeton; daughters, Arlene Bailey and Eunice Burnett of Princeton; brothers, Roy, Hassle and Cledith Shrewsbury; sisters, Goldie Sonick, Elsie Cook, Amanda Akers and Nova Shrewsbury; sons in law, John Atwood and Don Williams; great-granddaughter, Sarah Wedster of Chicago, Ill.

Survivors: Daughters, Lora Atwood of Chicago, Ill., Mary Lee Williams of Osceola, Ind., Shirley and husband John of York, S.C., Oreda and husband Kelley of Princeton, Garnett Kalweit and husband Albert of York, S.C.; 40 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Wardie Shrewsbury of Princeton; sisters, Noma Lilly of Princeton and Iris McGinnis of Princeton; daughters-in-law, Pat McKinney of Chicago, Ill. and Elaine McKinney of Hickory, N.C.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2008 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with the Reverend Gene Hazelwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens on the Courthouse Road in Princeton.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services.
