LONG ILLNESS PROVES FATAL MRS. E. BENDER

Mrs. Emma Bender. age 76, mother of County Commisioner Frank J. Bender, of the North District and former Porter county pioneer, died in her home in Hobart Wednesday night following a lingering illness.
She was born in Berlin, Germany, on February 2, 1857, a daughter of Frederick and Fredreka (Lichtwarle) Suhr, and came to this country in 1870 with her parents who located in South Chicago.
She was united in marriage to Conrad Bender in April 1877, and the couple moved to a farm in Portage township, Porter county. Here they resided until 1917 when they moved to Hobart, Mr. Bender died in May, 1922.
To this union was born ten children, seven of whom survive as follows: Edward F. Bender, of Gary; Mrs. Martha Lute, of Hobart; Mrs. Ida Schenelter of Crown Point; Mrs. Bertha Malone, who lived with her mother in Hobart; Albert C. Bender and Frank J. Bender, who live on and operate the Bender farm in Portage township and Walter F. Bender. of Chesterton. She also leaves nineteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home and at 2 o'clock at the German Lutheran church in Hobart. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery, in Portage township.
