Her Grandparents on her Father's side are John Salyers who married Eunice Salyers on the 18th day of March 1880. Bessie's Grandparents on her Mother's side are Margaret Ellen Meade Austin and her Grandfather was William "Bill" Aston Austin.
Bessie married William Edward Boothe Dec. 8, 1932. At her death, she and Ed had been married for 59 years. Ed and his wife Bessie had the following children, Earnest William, Claude Junior, Frances Noralee Boothe Bowman, Virginia Pauline, Adaline "Anilou", Charlie Alvin, Opal Arevilla Boothe Sims, Hazel Boothe Armentrout Brown, George Edward Boothe, Sr. and Clyde K. Boothe.
Bessie brothers and sisters are: Charlie Dolphus, John William "Jay" or "JW," Bill Thomas, Henry Ford, Robert Nathan Salyeres, Martha Salyers Boothe, Ibbie Victoria Salyers Sims Hicks, Myrtle Anne Salyers Munsey, Cookson, Dodd, Effie Mae Salyers Warren, and Margaret "Maggie" Ellen Salyers Austin Terlikowski.
Bessie was a home maker for a good part of her life. Later as her children grew older and due to her husband's disabilities, she worked cleaning houses and providing child care for others. She was also a factory worker, working in Tazewell, Va., as well as factories in Illinois when she lived in that area with her husband Ed for a few years. She was an excellent seamstress and made many of her children's clothes. When she moved from Illinois to Marion in the later years of her life, she worked at the Donnkenney Factory in Rural Retreat, Va. She was a great role model and mentor to her children and ensured they went to church and knew the scriptures. Personally, I know that I could not have accomplished all the things in life that I did if it had not been for my Mother's guidance and support. I find the older I get, the more I realize how truly smart and wise my Mother was. She was one of a kind!
Bessie's passing left a void that could never be filled in the hearts of many. She is truly missed by her family and friends.
