Per the Urbana Daily Courier, 12 July 1915

Pontiac, July 12. —John C. Antrim, a pioneer citizen of this county, is dead here. He was a Private in the U.S. Army, Civil War, Company H, 44th, Illinois, Inf

John was raised to manhood in Ohio, a farmer. In 1863 he and his wife and children moved from Ohio to Amity Twp., Livingston Co., Illinois; then in 1886 moved to Owego Twp, Livingston Co., IL farming and living on section 30 where he owned 123 acres. In fall of 1864 John enlisted in the Union Army from Livingston Co and was attached to Company H, 44th Ill. Infantry which was part of the Army of the Cumberland. He participated in the battles of Spring Hill, Franklin, Nashville and many lesser battles. Honorably discharged June 16,(or 15) 1865 at Nashville, Tenn. and returned to Livingston Co.

He applied for "Invalid Pension" on Aug 20 1890. The pension was $22.50 per month at the time of his death. At his death the pension was awarded to his widow, Anna. By 1888, in addition to the 123 acres in Owego Twp, he also owned 260 acres in Amity Twp.

In 1888 they had had only 9 children born to them, . Some records also show a 9 children, . But the 9 listed just above is as listed by the parents in a write-up of themselves in the 1888 Portrait and Biographical Album of Livingston County, IL.

In 1904 John was living at 306 W. Henry, Pontiac, IL., as was his son Louie. John was Amity Town Clerk beginning in 1865. At that time his land in Amity was valued $40/acre.

According to the official inventory in the settlement of the estate of John's mother, Elizabeth Antrim, John was still living in Pontiac, IL in November 1907.

John and Anna were married in February 1857, either on Feb 2 or Feb 22. (John is my [J. Keith Cook] 2nd great uncle. Ira Cook is my 2nd great grandfather. Though the two men are not otherwise related, the two of them both lived in Amity Township, Livingston County, Illinois, both having the address "P. O. Cornell, Illinois" in 1885, according to a directory of that period.)
