Lucy Emily Tubbs, daughter of John and Hannah (Pritchard) Humphrey, was born on April 28, 1865 in Liverpool, England, and departed this life on December 12, 1933 at her home in Kiowa, at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 14 days. She came to the United States when she was six weeks of age. She married Walter Brannan on February 2, 1882. Into their home came seven children, three boys and four girls. He died on January 30, 1898. Two boys and two girls have preceded her to the better world. One of the boys lost his life in France. At the time of her death, she was the only Gold Star Mother in Kiowa. She married S. C. Tubbs on May 15, 1905. In her passing, she leaves to mourn her loss, her husband; her daughters, Mrs. A. J. Van Gundy and Mrs. E. E. Strohmeier, both of Kiowa; her son, George Cameron Brannan of Wichita; her brother, John Humphrey of Jeddo, New York; fourteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
