Mary "Millie" Chambers, 80, of Iola, Kansas, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola, Kansas.
She was born Nov. 21, 1928, in Kingman, Kansas, the daughter of Mose Alfred and Mary Marie (Harris) Prather.
The family moved to LaHarpe, KS in 1937.
On March 27, 1949, she married Dean E. Chambers in Iola, Kansas. He preceded her in death Jan. 1, 2008.
They made their home in Iola, where she worked as a waitress at South Street Cafe and L&M Truckstop. She also worked at M&M Packing for a number of years.
She loved gardening, garage sales and flea markets.
She is survived by one son, Jerry Chambers and wife, Lavina, of Iola, KS; four grandchildren, Kaleb, Hannah, Rachel and Ethan Chambers; a sister, Bonnie Pennington of Chanute, KS; and three brothers, Dave Prather of Meeker, CO, Earnest Prather of Miamisburg, OH, and Dale Prather of LaHarpe, KS.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Darlene Paddock and Violet Sherwood Johnson; and a brother, Joe Prather.
Funeral services will be at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels. The Rev. Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in Iola, Kansas.
The family suggests memorials to the Iola Alzheimer's Support Group. Memorials may be left at Waugh-Yokum and Friskel, which is in charge of arrangements.
