My Grand Uncle Other (pronounced with a long 'O' sound followed by a hard 'th' and ending with the sound 'ur') Lee Dodd was the 2nd - born on 14 Apr 1887 in Summers County, WV - of 12 children born to John Henry and Mary Caroline Bragg Dodd. John Henry was a farmer.

In 1911 Grand Uncle Other married Oma Virginia 'Jennie' Hicks, also in Summers County, WV. On 12 Sep 1918 Other registered for the WWI draft at the age of 31. On this one document only, his year of birth differs from all other source documentation - listing his birth year as 1886: the WV, Births Index, FHL Film # 589340 (though his listed name is flawed in that there is a transcription error that has him down being born as one 'C L Dodd' rather than 'O L Dodd' - but then errors are made when typing up thousands of records from paper into computer databases as one might expect); the 1 Jun 1900 federal census for Jumping Branch, Summers County, WV; the 1 Apr 1940 federal census for Greenbrier, Summers County, WV; his WWII Draft Registration Card at the age of 55 on 27 Apr 1942; and his listing on the U.S., Social Security Death Index - all of these and the etching on his headstone monument verify his birth date of 14 Apr 1887 and not 14 Apr 1886.

Grand Uncle Other and Grand Aunt Oma 'Jennie' Dodd were listed on the 1 Apr 1930 and 1 Apr 1940 (which includes 1 Apr 1935) censuses as living in Greenbrier, Summers County, WV. From the time of his registration for the WWI draft, when they were living in Hinton, Summers County, WV, through his years living in Greenbrier, Summers County, WV, until once again, on 27 Apr 1942, when he registered for the WWII draft, when they had returned to Hinton, Summers County, WV to live, he maintained the sole occupation of that of a farmer, following in the footsteps of his father before him.

He lost his wife of about 41 years, Grand Aunt Oma Virginia 'Jennie' Hicks Dodd, on 28 May 1952 in Hinton, Summers, WV. It is not known if she died at home or not. They [Grand Uncle Other and Grand Aunt 'Jennie'] remained childless throughout their years of marriage. Contrary to Grand Uncle Other's 16 Apr 1974 obituary, this grand niece does not believe that they relocated to the Goldenrod, Seminole County, FL area in 1951 and then traveled back to WV in time for Grand Aunt 'Jennie' to pass away a year later in that locale. Perhaps they went back for a 'visit' and she expired but I believe that the year in Grand Uncle Other's obituary was a misprint and that he relocated to Goldenrod only after he had lost Grand Aunt 'Jennie'. At any rate, Grand Uncle Other survived Grand Aunt 'Jennie' by almost 20 years and passed away the day after his 87th birthday, on Monday, 15 Apr 1974. He was laid to rest beside his father, John Henry Dodd, who had preceded him in death 30 and a half years before in a drunken argument in a milking barn on Grand Uncle Other's 2nd to the youngest brother's [Basil Corbett Dodd's] Dairy Farm.
