Elbert Genings Dodd was the 1st of 12 children born to John Henry and Mary Caroline Bragg Dodd on 24 May 1885 in Summers County, WV. On 25 Nov 1908, at the age of 23, he married one of his 1st cousins, Rufina A Bennett, the 24-year-old daughter of Noah J and Elizabeth Jane Dodd Bennett. Elizabeth Jane Dodd and John Henry Dodd's parents were John Snyder and Mary Magdalene Crozier Dodd.

The end of this biography comes almost before it began from a story shared with me by my first cousin, Stella Margaret Dodd Lake, who inherited it in some papers left behind by her father, Basil 'Corbett' Dodd, - 7 years old when his oldest brother [Elbert] died, never having actually known him [Corbett] - when he himself passed away.

"Elbert was 29 when, on 26 Jun 1914 in Ronceverte, Greenbrier, WV, about four years after his father and his father's second wife had moved most of the other children to the Winter Park, FL area, Elbert went up in a cherry tree to prune it. He fell out of the tree during the pruning, broke his neck and died."

His death came one day less than five months shy of Elbert's and Rufina's 5th anniversary of their marriage.
