Sometime after the enumeration of the 1910 federal census for his family, - done on Thursday, 12 May 1910 - at the time living in Irish Corner, Greenbrier, West Virginia, and at least 8 months after the passing of his mother, his father moved all but the oldest and youngest sons to the Winter Park, Orange County, Florida area, where they were participants in the chartering of the First Baptist Church of Winter Park.
On Tuesday, 5 June 1917, P.G. registered for the World War I draft in Orange County, Florida at the age of 26, still a single man.
Per the 1930 federal census (enumerated in his case on Saturday, 26 April 1930), at which time P.G. was married, both he and his new wife, Vesta D. Powell, stated on the census that they were the age they were currently at the time of that census when they married. Since I have been unsuccessful in finding any source documentation of their marriage, I must conclude that they were married sometime in the preceding few months in late 1929 or early 1930.
P.G. and Vesta had one child, a son, Jack Powell Dodd, who was born on Wednesday, 4 July 1934 and is still living as far as this first cousin once removed knows at this time.
P.G. and Vesta continued to live in the country just north and outside of Goldenrod in Seminole County, Florida until P.G. lost his wife on Wednesday, 10 March 1976. The U.S., Social Security Death Index indicated that Vesta's last place of residence, where she received her final Social Security benefit and thus no doubt passed away, was Maitland in Orange County. As a former resident of the area at the time in question, I personally know that we did indeed get our mail from the Maitland post office via a rural route; however none of us ever lived in Orange County.
My grand uncle P.G. moved after Grand Aunt Vesta's death to be with his son in Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida, which is where Grand Uncle Pearly passed away on Thursday, 24 March 1977 - two weeks more than a year after Grand Aunt Vesta's passing.
He was another of my paternal grandmother's siblings that I never met face to face nor got to know. So much more is the pity. You are missed, Grand Uncle P.G.!
