OBITUARY, The Correctionville News, 19 August 1971, page 1:

Miss Verna Coon, 90, daughter of George and Ella Estella Coon, was born March 15, 1881, near Correctionville and passed away August 11, 1971, at a Sioux City nursing home after a long illness.

She was a life long resident of Woodbury County, living in or near the Correctionville/Anthon areas. She was a teacher in the Woodbury County schools for more than fifty years. After retiring from teaching she moved to Anthon, later going to a nursing home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Anderson of Correctionville and Mrs. Maude Page of Hinton, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Minnie Coon of Sioux City, several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at the Barker Funeral Home, Correctionville, with Allen Burnham, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating. Pallbearers were Roland Hart, Roger Mead, Gerald Mahin, Moss Anderson, Kenneth Heath and John Kinney. Interment was in the Correctionville Cemetery.
