Francis Marion Brown died July 19, 1941 not 1940.

Francis Marion Brown, son of James M. and Jerusha Brown, was born near Keithsburg, Illinois on November 1, 1869, and departed this life Saturday evening, Juy 19, 1940, at 8:45 p.m. at the age of 71 years, 8 months and 18 days.

When ten years of age he moved with his parents to Adams County, Iowa, where he lived the remainder of his life. At the age of 18 years he became a member of the Christian Church, from whch he never withdrew his membership.

He was married to Elizabeth Goldsmith on May 3, 1893, at Corning, Iowa. Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn his passing four children; Walter of Corning, Iowa, Earl and Merl of Brooks, Iowa and Annis at home, also a nephew, Charles Wood, who made his home with the famly for a number of years. He also leaves to mourn one sister, Mrs. Rhoda Walker, of Orange Cove, California; three brothers, Ben Brown of Lenox,Iowa, Harper Brown of near Corning, Iowa and Arthur Brown of Lewistown, California. His grandchildren whom he dearly loved are; Doris, Robert and Harold, children of Mr. and Mrs. Merl Brown and Paul and Carrie Elizabeth, children of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Brown. Six sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.

Mur was a man of quiet dispositon, a lover of the home, very much devoted to his family and always looked forward to their visits at home. He was a true friend to anyone in need and never was more delighted than when friends and relatives came to visit him. He was honest and upright in all his dealings and generous in sharng with others. He will be greatly missed by his family, his neighbors and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Brooks Methodist Church Tuesday afternoon, July 22, 1940, at 2 p.m. Rev. Ora L. Reep was in charge of the services. Burial was made in the Brooks Cemetery. Music was furnished by Estey Hefling, Ruth Tucker, Charles Chalmers and Frank Fuller with Florence Myers, pianist. Pallbearers were Carl Peregrine, Glen Brown, Kenneth Murdock, Ernest Brown, James Goldsmith and Eldon Gillette.
