Walter Baxter, 70, of 2060 N. Road 500W, died unexpectedly at 3 a.m. today at his home. he had been in ill health some time.
Baxter retired from Cummins Engine Co. in 1980, after 40 years employment. He was a member of First Christian Church, Senior Citizens and CREAK club.
Funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Lucas at 10 a.m. Monday at Barkes, Inlow and Weaver Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike, where calling hours will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 a.m. until service time on Monday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Hospital.
Baxter was born Jan. 3, 1915, in Deputy, the son of Edwin and Anna Painter Baxter. He married Ruth Duncan on Dec. 24, 1938, and she survives.
Also surviving are a son, Terry Baxter of 8211 W. Georgetown; a brother, Fred Baxter of Clifford; two sisters, Lottie Swinehart and Deana Mankin, both of Clifford, and three grandchildren.
