Jean was the sixth of nine children of Elmer Hammerstone LaFevre, a paper mill worker from Milford, Hunterdon Co., and Cora Belle Edinger LaFevre.

Obituary from the Hunterdon County Democrat, April 12, 2007:

Jean Crouse

HOLLAND TWP. --Jean Delores (LaFevre) Crouse passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at home. She was 77.

Born May 22, 1929 in Milford, a daughter of Elmer Hammerstone and Cora Belle (Eddinger) LaFevre, she was a lifelong resident. She was raised and educated in Milford, graduating from Frenchtown High School in 1946.

She worked briefly as a telephone operator and on May 6, 1950, she married Stacy Britton Crouse, who passed away in 1995. She will always be remembered as a great cook and in her youth, for her beautiful red hair, later to be a lovely, silvery white. She was a loving mother who always listened to her children whether it was their accomplishments or their troubles. She enjoyed a good joke, particularly when it was told by one of her grandchildren.

Two brothers, Elmer E. Jr. and Jack H. LaFevre, and three sisters, Elizabeth Rickert, Shirley Adams and Joan Deremer, all died earlier.

She is survived by three daughters, Barbara J. Henry and her husband, David of Brattleboro, Vt., Carol A. Woodward and her husband, David, of Key West, Fla., and Susan K. Holland and her husband, Cressman Peter of Forks Township, Pa.; two sisters, Margaret (Peg) Schroth of Milford and Olive (Bobbie) Hampton of Phillipsburg; a brother, Terry M. LaFevre and his wife, Noralie of Milford; five grandchildren, Matthew Henry and his wife, Karen, of Brattleboro, Jeffrey Henry and his wife, Rachel, of Dummerston, Vt., Jennifer Fitzgerald of Fairbanks, Alaska, Larry Fitzgerald and his wife, Audrey of North Pole, Alaska, and Cressman Peter Holland II of Forks Township; and four great-grandchildren, Sydney Madison, Samuel Britton Henry, Jalon McCullough and Madison Rae.

She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and several thoughtful neighbors.

A private graveside service will be held in Milford Union Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, Holland Township.

Memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society, 600 First Ave., Raritan, 08869 or the Hunterdon Humane Animal Shelter, 576 Stamets Road, Milford 08848.
